How to Trade Safely in Adopt Me and Avoid Scams
Updated 2026-10-26 · 4 min read
Trading is one of the most fun parts of Adopt Me!, but it's also where scammers look for victims. Most scams follow the same few patterns, so once you know them, they're much easier to spot.
Here's the golden rule: if a deal only works when you trust someone, it isn't a real trade.
Get your Trade License first
The Trade License is free. To get it, go to the Safety Hub on Adoption Island and take a short quiz. You'll watch three trade situations and decide whether each one is safe or a scam. If you get one wrong, you can try again.
The license lets you:
- Trade Ultra-Rare and Legendary items
- See your recent trade history
- Report a trade if you get scammed
How a safe trade works
The in-game trade window is built to protect both players:
- Each player adds their items to the window.
- A short countdown restarts every time something is added or removed, so you always get time to look before accepting.
- Both players press Accept, and the items swap at the same moment.
- If the game thinks a trade is very unfair, it shows a warning and gives you extra seconds to think it over.
The Trading Hub, which lets you post listings and make offers to players in other servers, also uses the game's own trading system. As long as everything happens inside these systems, nobody has to "go first."
Common scams and how to beat them
Trust trades
Someone asks you to give them your pet first and promises to give it back or send something better afterward. As soon as they have your pet, they leave. The game even blocks talk about trust trading in chat because it's such a common scam. Never trust trade, even with friends or people who say they're famous.
Fake middlemen
A player offers to "hold" items for both sides to keep things fair. Adopt Me has no official middleman. The trade window already swaps both sides at once, so there's never a reason to hand your pet to a third person.
Switch scams
The scammer shows a Neon or Mega Neon pet in the trade, then swaps it for a regular or cheaper pet while your backpack covers part of the screen. Before you press Accept:
- Check every slot, including the last one.
- Look for the green N (Neon) or purple M (Mega Neon) icon.
- Check the Fly and Ride icons and the pet's age if they matter to you.
- Refuse any deal where they promise to "add the rest after." Everything you're getting must be in the window.
"Pay later" and off-game deals
Never give away your pets for a promise of Robux, gift cards, money or items from another game. Once your pet is gone, there's no way to make the other person pay, and these deals break the rules anyway. If someone wants you to hand something over first and get paid somewhere else, say no.
Offers that are too good to be true
- "I can duplicate your pet." Duplicating items in Adopt Me is impossible.
- "I'll make your pet Neon or feed it a potion." They need your pet first, and you won't see it again. If they really want to help, they can trade you the potion.
- Contests and giveaways. If you have to give away your best pet to "enter," it's a scam.
- Pressure. Lines like "hurry, someone else wants it" are meant to stop you from thinking. A good deal will still be there in a minute.
Keep your account safe
Your pets are only as safe as your account.
- Never share your password, not even with friends. Roblox and Uplift Games staff will never ask for it, and no real shop needs it. GetPets, for example, only needs your username and delivers by trading with you in the game.
- Never share browser cookies or paste code into your browser. Some scammers ask you to copy and paste things that secretly give them access to your account.
- Skip "free Robux" and "free pets" links, and games that promise free Adopt Me items. They're usually trying to steal your login.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification in your Roblox security settings.
- Ignore "hacker" threats. Someone saying they'll hack you unless you give them pets is just trying to scare you. Report them.
What to do if you get scammed
- Stay calm and take screenshots of the chat and anything else you saw.
- Use your Trade License to open your trade history and report the trade. Adopt Me staff review reports.
- Report the player's account on Roblox.
- Tell a parent or another adult you trust.
Don't try to scam the person back. It can get your own account in trouble.
Trading should be fun. Take your time, check every slot, and walk away from anything that feels off.
