How to Make Neon and Mega Neon Pets
Updated 2026-10-26 · 4 min read
Neon pets glow in special spots on their bodies, and every kind of pet has its own glow color. Mega Neon pets glow in the same spots but keep cycling through colors. They're some of the most eye-catching pets in Adopt Me!, and making one yourself is a real achievement.
It takes patience, but the process is simple once you know the steps.
What you need
For a Neon pet
- Four pets of the same kind, such as four Dogs or four Unicorns
- All four must be Full Grown
For a Mega Neon pet
- Four Neon pets of the same kind
- All four must be Luminous, which is the Neon version of Full Grown
That means a single Mega Neon starts out as 16 regular pets. Keep in mind that fusing is permanent. The four pets you use are combined into one new pet, and you won't get them back. A few special pets, such as the Pet Rock, can't be made Neon at all.
Step 1: Raise your pets to Full Grown
Regular pets grow through six stages:
- Newborn
- Junior
- Pre-Teen
- Teen
- Post-Teen
- Full Grown
Pets grow when you take care of their needs. Feeding them, giving them a drink, letting them sleep, giving them a bath, taking them for walks, playing catch and visiting places like the Playground or the School all count. Higher-rarity pets need more care to reach each stage, so a Legendary takes much longer to grow up than a Common.
Ways to speed things up
- Use Age-Up Potions. Each one gives a pet a big jump in growth. You can earn them in the game, for example as rewards for raising friendship levels and aging up pets. They can't be traded, and they don't work on eggs or pets that are already Full Grown.
- Trade for Full Grown pets. You don't have to raise all four yourself. Mixing pets you raised with pets you traded for works fine, as long as they're the same kind and all Full Grown.
- Pick tasks that suit you. Sometimes the game lets you choose your pet's next task. Choose the ones you can finish quickly.
Step 2: Go to the Neon Cave
The Neon Cave is under the main bridge that connects Adoption Island to the Neighborhood. Head down and go through the entrance under the bridge. Inside, follow the path to the big platform where an NPC named Nixie stands. Talk to Nixie if you want a quick explanation of what the cave does.
Step 3: Fuse your pets
- Walk up to the glowing circles in the middle of the platform.
- Place one of your Full Grown pets on each circle.
- Watch the short animation as the pets combine.
- Your new Neon pet appears in the center circle.
If one of the pets isn't Full Grown yet, a message will pop up and the fusion won't start. Finish aging that pet and try again.
Making a Mega Neon
Once you have Neon pets, they grow through their own set of stages:
- Reborn
- Twinkle
- Sparkle
- Flare
- Sunshine
- Luminous
Each Neon stage takes the same amount of care as the matching regular stage. When you have four Luminous Neon pets of the same kind, go back to the Neon Cave and fuse them exactly like before. Out comes your Mega Neon.
Mega Neon is the final tier. There's nothing beyond it, so the cave won't let you fuse a pet that's already Mega Neon.
Plan your Fly and Ride potions
You don't need to feed potions to every pet you plan to fuse. If any of the pets you use can fly or be ridden, the new Neon or Mega Neon keeps that ability.
That makes planning easy:
- Feed potions to just one pet in the group, not all four.
- Or wait and feed the potions to the finished Mega Neon. Either way, one Fly-A-Pet Potion and one Ride-A-Pet Potion are enough for a Mega Neon that can fly and be ridden.
Tips for a smoother grind
- Pick a pet you love. You'll be spending a lot of time with it.
- Keep count. Write down how many of each pet you have and what age they are, especially when you're working toward a Mega Neon.
- Watch out for "neon makers." No player can turn your pet Neon for you. Only the Neon Cave can do it, using your own four pets. Anyone who asks you to hand over a pet so they can "make it Neon" is trying to steal it.
- Check trades carefully. When you trade for Full Grown or Neon pets, look at the age and the green N or purple M icon before you accept.
If collecting and raising 16 pets sounds like too much, you can buy ready-made Neon and Mega Neon pets from GetPets instead and receive them through an in-game trade.
